About the East Cooper Fishing Club

The ECFC was founded in the spring of 2007. The main purpose of the club is to establish and further friendships within the fishing community. Although, we are still relatively young, the club-related activities have generated numerous friendships, healthy rivalries, and lots of memorable fishing adventures (see ECFC Galleries). The ECFC counts approximately 110 active members (July, 2012) and meets every first Monday of the month at 7:00 PM at the Point Hope United Methodist Church, Mount Pleasant. The ECFC is a family-friendly group of of fishing enthusiasts who love to fish but also enjoy getting together on a regular base to socialize and have fun.

 Our Social Activities

The ECFC consists of an enthusiastic group of fishing enthusiasts who also like to come together on a regular base to socialize and have fun off the water.  We typically organize three to four social events per year.  In the beginning in the year we meet (usually in Palmetto Count Park) for the annual ECFC Oyster Roast, at the end of the summer we organize a cook-out, and at the end of the year we come together to celebrate the holidays.  Below you'll find a slide show of a recent holiday party (in the Hamlin Plantation Club House)

ECFC Charity Events

The ECFC has participated 5 times in in the Fishing Rodeo for children with disabilities and special needs.  These events are organized by Family Connection of South Carolina and held at the Sewee Environmental Education Center in Awendaw.   Members of the club (and friends/family) assist the children in catching and releasing fish from the well-stocked pond.  It is always a very rewarding activity where ECFC members contribute to a fantastic day for the participants (see slide show below).  Once a year, the ECFC also prepares a special meal for the recipients of services from East Cooper Meals on Wheels. Volunteers from the ECFC contribute part of their catch (most of it Mahi Mahi) and prepare it for the customers.

IOP Trout

On one of the first nice days of spring, new ECFC member Slomocean fished the creeks behind IOP with artificials and fresh cut mullet.  He caught several over-slot reds (largest 28") and one very nice trout ( 21").  Things are certainly picking up !  Lots of bait in the creeks.
